SUMMER CAMPS!!

Stitch Pretty is offering some really great summer camps.  Activities include sewing, knitting, crocheting, and weaving.  Carla, the owner of Stitch Pretty, will teach the sewing classes and I will be teaching the yarn crafts.  If you know of anybody who is looking for a camp with a difference, this is it.  Check out the Stitch Pretty website for dates and information.  Flyer for the camps below.

Once again, we're offering Summer Sewing camps during the June and July holidays.  Are you an aspiring fashionista?  Would you like to learn to sew - from clothes for yourself to clothes for your American Doll, our camps are always fun! Summer camps are for girls ages 8 through 15.  Don't know how to sew?  Don't worry - you don't have to have any sewing experience.  Leave that to us!  You will not only learn to sew, but you will sew wonderful projects which you will treasure for many years to come. It is finally getting warm!

Hi everyone,

I hope the warm weather is here to stay. Some people say they can't knit in summer because it is too hot. Not me! I want to get all my Christmas gifts done this summer.  

I have been trying to keep up to date with pictures of my projects, and little by little I will get it done.  Stitch Pretty is having summer camps  and I will do yarn crafts in the afternoon during the June 17-21 and July 8-12 camps from 1-4 pm.  Sewing skills will be taught in the morning and the yarn crafts in the afternoon.  Students can sign up for the whole day or just for a morning or afternoon.  We will be doing some fun and exciting crafts with yarn and I will post some pictures about that too.

I have been busy with all sorts of knitting projects and lots of new ideas are already forming in my head.  Just recently I lost one of my projects that was handed in for approval at the one locations where I teach.  Somebody obviously thought it was cute and took it!  It was a little I-pod/I-phone holder with a basket weave pattern and it is something that can be used for anything like tissues or as a little gift bag. I will probably have to knit another, but so many projects and so little time.  The story of my life.

I attended a yarn expo in April and had the best time looking at and touching all the wonderful yarn.  There were lots of knitted items that made my mouth water.  I was so overwhelmed by everything that I almost end up not buying anything.  In the end I bought beautiful Koigu yarn (100% wool) and made a cowl for an exciting trip that I will be going on towards the end of the year.  The picture will be posted next time.  It is late and I don't have the energy to battle with my old camera.  Got to get a new one!

 

This was the I-pod holder that has gone missing.  The basket weave is fun to knit and the sides are crochet together.

 

 

One of the summer camp yarn crafts will be weaving on an old CD.  You can make a few of these and put them all together in a pattern on the wall. 

 

 

Students will also make their own knitting needles.  I found the wooden beads with faces on in a craft store and made the braids from yarn for the tall needles.  The short needles have sparkling beads glued on top.  It is going to be so much fun to have the students make their own knitting needles that they will use in their lessons.

These are some of the projects one of my 8-year old students made - pocket purse, red heart for Valentine's Day, booties, pom-poms, etc.  She was a real pleasure to work with.

Baby things and more .....

Hi everyone
I have been so busy with working on ideas for springs projects that I have not had time to post an update on my knitting projects.  This morning I got up and decided today is the day.  

Towards the end of last year I was invited to a friend's baby shower and knitted a baby cocoon, hat, and blanket for the baby. With my friend's permission here are some pictures of baby Mya.  Isn't she just gorgeous!!  Snuggling in her warm cocoon and hat.

I have been invited to another baby shower, and this time it is for a spring baby.  I used cotton yarn to knit some booties, a little hat, and pullover bib. 

I have had so much fun knitting these little baby items and in particular knitting the little flowers for the hat and booties.
  
Towards late spring I will be teaching a class on how to knit a lace shrug ( I will post on this blog about the dates and times).  It is a very easy pattern.  If you can cast on, knit, and purl you can do this class.  

 
The yarn used is Bernat Satin which feels very soft and silky against the skin.  

There are a few more exciting knitting projects ongoing and I will post more updates as I go along.

Christmas knitting and more

December 2012 was certainly a very busy knitting month for me.  While keeping up with knitting classes, I had a few last minute Christmas gifts to finish. Some of the items included a nice ribbed pattern scarf for my son and wool socks for my hubby.  Lionel prefers knitted wool items for his outdoor adventures in winter, because it keeps him warm and dry.  It was my very first attempt at socks, and I must say, they turned out really well.  This year I am going to attempt to finish all my Christmas gifts in summer. I will add a picture of the socks next time.

Some of my other projects included cowls and fingerless mitts.  These are perfects for gifts and they knit up really fast. 

Knitting classes keep me busy and I am enjoying it.  I am also happy to see that there is an increased interest in my classes for knitting and felting purses.  It is so rewarding to see each purse takes shape once it is felted. It never gets old.

PURSE FRENZY!

Hi there everyone,
I finally found the lost camera, but then I did something that erased the camera software from the computer.  Lucky for me I uploaded some pictures before I did that.
I have started back on knitting and felting purses and I am having a blast. So many yarns and colors to choose from.  Funny how the idea for a purse starts.  Sometimes it will be color of a yarn and other times it will be a flower or an eye catching button.  I wanted to make a tote for my Bible study books and these colorful flowers were the inspiration. I made a bunch of these flowers to be used for future projects and just love the colors and the way they felted.  I decided to make a tote and use the flowers for decoration.  I love it, and everything fits perfectly inside my tote.

 This little purse was all about the yarn, and I am sorry to say that the picture does not reflect the true colors. It is really a deep aqua (more green than blue) and the self striping yarn just pulled the whole purse together.  I found the flower and peacock feather combination afterwards and could not believe how all the colors matched.

 This picture shows the back of the purse.  It was also the first time that I made bobbles on a purse and I think it looks very cute!

Watch my blog for more pictures to come.  I have another purse in the final stages and as soon as it is done I will post the pictures.  I can't wait to see how the colors turn out.

Scarves, hats, and mittens, but we can't wear them yet!

Hi friends,
It has been a month since my last blog about the cold weather.  It has gotten warmer since then.  The birds think it is spring and wakes us up singing every morning!  Today's high was 70 degrees.  But I am not complaining.  I like it!  It is just that all the cute scarves, hats, and mittens are waiting to be used!
My next problem is that I can't find my camera to take pictures for my blog. After the Thanksgiving trip to Mississippi it has just disappeared.  Since I can't take pictures to post, I will update with some pictures of winter knitting later. 
I have starting knitting and felting flowers (beautiful, bright colored flowers) that can be put on anything for decorations.  You can put them on hats, purses, and that old, grey sweater that needs a facelift. They are quite pretty and fun to make.  
I am also knitting little mittens for an advent garland (picture below).  You knit 24 mittens, place numbers on them for counting down till Christmas, and knit some strings to make the garland.  I probably won't get all 24 done, but if I do 2 every month, it should be done by next Christmas.  I don't want to put my other fun projects aside and just knit mittens.  Aren't they just the cutest little things you have ever seen, and I love the colors!



The calendar on the Stitch Pretty website has been updated and we have added Knitting Help on Wednesday nights from 6-8 pm for our working girls for December 5, 12, and 19. The Knitting Circle on Thursdays from 10am-12pm will continue as usual. The girl's knitting classes are also starting to pick up.

The cold is here!! Brrrrr!!

The gloves and scarves were reluctantly pulled out last week while hurricane Sandy moved towards the East coast and we had our first taste of winter.  By last weekend we were toasty again, but the warm weather will soon be gone - for a while.  Good thing is that I will have lots of indoor time to get all my knitting projects done.  I have been crazy busy with knitting beanies, cowls, wrist warmers, and ear warmers, but I have not taken pictures of it all yet.  It seems that I will have to put half a day aside just to get all the pictures taken.  It is a good way for me to keep track of what I have knitted so far.

A project I also enjoyed was knitting a cover for a lampshade that I bought at a yard sale for $1. I got the idea of a knitted lamp shade cover after seeing one at the house of an artist friend.  After I finished the cover, I attached it to the lampshade with hot glue and added some fun trim.  The next thing I needed was a lamp stand that would do this little piece of art justice.  And where else would I find it but in an antique store.

Well, now that was fun and my lampshade has a whole new look!
  
During the month of November we will have two Knit2gether evenings (Nov 14 and 28) at Stitch Pretty in Roswell from 6pm-8pm (www.stitchpretty.com).  It will be a "knitting help or help with starting a new project" time.  A small cover fee of $10 is all it takes and you can bring a friend for free.
